Insomnia

The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity but nothing's really been done.

We watched 51 Birch Street which I recommend. The director's parents seem to have a happy marriage. His mother dies unexpectedly and his father remarries a former co-worker three months later. Was their marriage really as happy as he and his sisters thought? Did his father cheat on his mother with the former co-worker decades ago? Does the director really want to know the answers to these questions? I think the film is a good portrait of a 50's couple. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, though.

Today around lunchtime is when we get the keys to our house. Yay! The hardwood floor company will be at the house on Thursday. The security alarm people will be there on Friday. The monitoring system requires a land line. We wanted to keep this number available for anyone who needed to reach us, so we have a new phone number. I don't have to be back at work until Tuesday.

More boxes have sprouted in the apartment. I keep taking bags of clothes and other items out to Goodwill.

My allergies to ragweed, tree pollen (mostly oak and birch), cat dander and dog dander are severe enough that I was told I'd be a good candidate for shots. I guess my body got more sensitive since I was last tested in 1998. For now I'm going with AllegraD, nose spray, and a saline wash for my nose.

One show I've been enjoying and fully expect to be cancelled is I Bet You feature professional poker players Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari. Some of their small bets with each other is repetitive but the people involved and the locations still make them interesting. If I didn't know they were best friends before watching this show it is pretty obvious from their interactions. Part of what makes the show entertaining is their chemistry. And the humiliation bets aren't half bad either.

I've been watching John From Cincinnati and I'm one episode behind. I can't decide if I like it or not. Mostly I find the character of John and his relationship with the Yosts frustrating. It's the motel storyline that keeps sucking me back in to watch more (and I like Kai).
