Today's Vacation Update

Today we "drove into town".  I think trying to look at all the houses made me car sick.  There is roller skating every night above the post office.  We went to a super cute bookstore (I think it was called Half Quarter Moon), bought superfresh crab legs and shrimp, window shopped at a tacky store (the saltwater taffy in the Top Sail souvenoir box was made in China), and checked out the abandoned arcade.  It looks like the arcade is only staffed during the summer season when all of the tourists are here.  But it takes real quarters!

During yesterday's walk I saw a crab, two stingrays, and a jellyfish washed up on the beach.

I read Sarah's Key in one day and have started Ever.

Stingrays surprises me -- I've never seen those washed up! I'm a little surprised at the jellyfish too. Jellyfish season on the Atlantic is usually during August. I was under the impression that you see less sealife in August because the jellyfish had moved on. Maybe I'm wrong!

Less sealife in October. Not less in August. There's tons in August; sometimes you can even see a whale blow its spout. (I see that as fair warning for "I am coming to get you, humans!")

The stingrays made me sad because they both had blood on them which made me think they were hurt and in pain. The jellyfish wasn't huge so it was probably fairly young. One of the fishermen said the fish were swimming south to warmer waters so they've been busy catching them!

Totally off-topic from your post, but I made you and wacky_iraqi maintainers of the Calliope community, in case requests and stuff come in while I'm not really available. I know you're busy too LoL but I figured between the three of us we'd be good to go :)
