Melting Snow

The snow is now melting but has no where to go; the gutters are covered.  Discovered water is going onto one of our bedroom windows and inside the house.  On the advice of my husband's uncle, we threw salt onto the roof in hopes it would slide into the gutters and make an entry point for the water.  In the meantime, we're collecting the water and we have a rain damaged window shade.  It's some kind of heavy canvas.  I hope it can be cleaned.

Roof rakes are good if you can reach up to the roof (maybe from a ladder). We used to have to do that all the time at our old house because of ice dams.

I'll have to look into one of those. Never even heard of them before. :)

Think of a lightweight shovel on the longest extension pole ever. Then you pull the snow down to you instead of pushing away.
