It happened!

I woke up this morning to the apartment shaking and a loud muffled thud.

The kitchen cabinets came down.

If only I were so lucky! Or maybe not...

Our apartment is over 60 years old and the foundation seems to be moving. The landlord placed some kind of spacers in the apartments on each side of us to prevent the floor from sinking.

I noticed a while ago that one of the wall cabinet doors wouldn't close all of the way. Then last week I noticed another one wouldn't close all the way and the first one I noticed didn't even close at all anymore.

Looking more closely at it on Monday last week, I noticed the cabinets had started to pull away from the walls. My husband got everything out of them on Sunday and it looked like it was getting worse.

We were fortunate that it happened when it did. The dog was with us and not in the kitchen. We lifted up the cabinets and set them up on the floor. He would not have been able to get up if one of them fell onto him. Some stuff flew into his water dish and a cabinet left a gash in the wall opposite of it.

Ack!
I'm glad all three of you are alright!

And yes, you have an eerie sense of perception.

I hope the cabinets can be fixed soon!

Re: Ack!
Now if only I could use that ability to let me know what the winning lottery numbers will be... :)

Re: Ack!
Perhaps it's a tradeoff...

You don't win the lottery, but no one gets smushed by falling fixtures.
