Devastation

Last night I saw Blissfully Yours and most of Mysterious Object at Noon before there was a power outage which cut the film short. Joe, the director, said a few words beforehand. He's very soft spoken and the audience was holding its breath while he was speaking. I didn't really care much for Blissfully Yours but I did like Mysterious Object at Noon.

Walking around the campus in the dark was a little strange. The only lights that could be seen were from the buses. It was just like the cat bus in Totoro. The parking garage was pitch black and I was thankful I wasn't by myself.

This morning I hung around the apartment doing nothing. My husband left early to go get Joe because they were having lunch with some Thai students. I think they were going to see a movie and then show up at tonight's screening of Tropical Malady.

In the afternoon I saw Shall We Dance. I like Audrey Wells and her work but I didn't really care for it. Towards the end of the film is Peter Gabriel's version of the Magnetic Fields song, Book of Love. I can't explain why it did this to me, but I just broke down into tears the more the song played. I've been in a strange mood since then but it feels good.

The Book of Love
The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing
But I
I love it when you read to me
And you
You can read me anything
The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
But I
I love it when you sing to me
And you
You can sing me anything
The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we're all too young to know
But I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
You ought to give me wedding rings
