Movies I've Been Wanting To Give Updates On

The last quiet morning we'll have for who knows how long...

A few weeks ago I saw a few movies that left me wanting more. More of what, I'm not entirely sure. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford seems to be more about the nature of fame than anything else. Or fame that's "earned" at the expense of someone else and it eats away at the soul. That's okay. There's nothing wrong with it. The vacant look of Casey Affleck's was a little offputting at times because it reminded me of someone I know. Maybe that look is something socially awkward people have in their back pocket without knowing it.

The Darjeeling Limited has lost me quite a bit of money on HSX. It lacks the quirky charm of other Wes Anderson's characters; each character is missing that one moment when their essence shows and their motivations or true feelings click. The Chelsea Hotel which we saw on the internet and we saw again before the movie is a delightful short that left me wanting more in a good way. More of these two crazy kids who understand each other but have some kind of block that prevents them from being together. And what kind of job does Natalie Portman have that allows her to jump on a plane to Paris for a day? Maybe she really does have a job and that's all the time she can take off work. :)

On DVD we spent a few nights watching No Direction Home: Bob Dylan. I stayed awake for the first DVD but did take a nap during the second one. It was interesting. There is one duet with Joan Baez where I told my husband they sounded like howling dogs. I think the movie did a good job of capturing how people change according to what's going on in their lives. And the ridiculous questions journalists can ask. (As a side note, one of the worst questions I ever heard was from a local reporter to Spike Lee "Do you make your movies for black people?" Spike laughed, looked him in the eye and asked him, "Now what kind of question is that?") It chronicles how attune or how resistant people can be to change. Overall this was the winner of the three movies for me.

NaNoWriMo Day Six

No official new words today.

I did some conferring on the NaNoWriMo boards regarding what else to do with the plot of my novel. Going by my 2005 novel I had enough plot to get to 16k or 20k if I really stretched it. Now I've got an ending, and at least two more plot points. So that's another 4k to 6k of words. I may need to invent extremely colorful secondary characters. But who knows what will happen when she meets bandits! They might just decide to go along on her journey instead of taking all of her gold.

NaNoWriMo - Day Seven

Is it really a week? I brought my USB drive with me to work today but no writing was done.

After getting home from work we rushed out to get Sammy as we didn't want to get there too late and have the hold taken off of him. At the petstore he marked just about everything he could. But he's not marked or chewed anything in the house. So far. :)
