The Beastie Boys - Random Thoughts

One of the newest inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is The Beastie Boys. I could've sworn I was in middle school when License to Ill was released, but checking the dates, I was 15 - a sophomore in high school.

(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) was the anthem of every teenager I knew. Even the "good" kids knew ourselves and our limits better than our parents did. (Typical thinking of the young, I now realize.) Their music videos were homages to the movies of the 70s.

As I grew up, they grew up too. Eventually they learned how to play instruments. I saw them during the 1994 Lollapalooza festival. Their entrance included riding a kid's tricycle. The Breeders were there with gold lame amps.

At some point I realized they weren't much older than me. They have kids now. They still make good music that makes me laugh. Intergalatic is a welcome earworm. Our little cousins did crazy breakdancing to the song at Christmas.

Part of me thinks they're too young for induction. After all, doesn't that mean I'm old?
