I'll have to give this some thought. I'm not including any online games for this list. I can think of two off the top of my head.
The first is Magic Carpet for the PC. I played this for hours. You're a prince who must capture the trail of magic balls and use them to attack monsters and things that attack you while you're on your carpet. It used a joystick. Before we moved we still had it. It was made by Leapfrog and ran great on our pentium 75. Later we installed it (I think on this laptop) and it was too choppy to play. The processor was too fast for it.
The second game is Diablo for the PC. This was another game I played for hours. I'd just kill things from dungeon to dungeon and pick up all the loot I could find.
I'm sure there are more but I wanted to get this down before I started working some more on my NaNo.
